The Write-In
April 17, 2025
Grab your pen, keyboard or pencil and join this space dedicated to those who find focus when writing together, who desire to put a proposal down or experiment with different styles of writing in research. Whether you need to write a chapter for your PhD or post-doc or are inspired to apply for a residency or grant, join these collective writing sessions and find the attentive moment to put words to paper.
The idea is simple, come and work on any text you are busy with. Keeping each other company while writing, we will create a great atmosphere of concentration that facilitates the words to flow. Perhaps with some exercises to trigger inspiration, sparing with a fellow writer or conversations with the occasional guest, these sessions are open to everyone who feels writing is better in company.

Ways of Knowing
Event
weaving stories | Co-creating conditions of possibilities at the end of the world as we know it
May 8, 2025
In this weaving stories series, artistic-researcher ro heinrich invites her close research collaborators and the ARIAS network to engage with practices of relationality. During three practice sessions, participants are invited to engage with ro heinrich’s filmic work-in-process. In this first gathering, we together study The Being of Relation, a film fragment featuring the voice of Erin Manning, alongside short texts.
TIME
9.30-13.00 + soup
PLACE
DAS Graduate School

Working with grammars of relationality through spoken and unspoken languages, ro heinrich’s work stages the refusal to separate the human and the more-than human, world and body. Her current collaborative research and film project Weaving conversations at the end of the world as we know it – involving Erin Manning, Tyson Yunkaporta, fabrice dubosc, and artist initiatives like Reschooling With, among others – serves as a guide and thread through this series. The research explores the intersections of ecological collapse and cultural transformation, addressing our present predicament at the end of the world as we know it. Artificial Worlds
Event
Slow AI Symposium
May 15, 2025
Join us for the Slow AI Symposium, a full-day gathering dedicated to rethinking artificial intelligence beyond speed, efficiency, and profit-driven narratives. Through roundtable discussions, we will critically engage with the first year of Slow AI research, reflecting on alternative pathways for AI development that center ethics, sustainability, and creative inquiry.
The event will also mark the launch of the Slow AI publication and podcast, presenting insights from our ongoing collaborations between the Visual Methodologies Collective (HvA) and the Algorithmic Cultures Research Group at the Sandberg Institute (GRA), supported by CoECI, ARIAS Amsterdam, and the Artificial Worlds group. The day will conclude with drinks, offering a moment to continue conversations in a more informal setting. We invite artists, researchers, technologists, and anyone curious about decolonial, feminist, and kinship-based approaches to AI to join us in shaping new imaginaries for artificial intelligence. More details to follow—stay tuned! Image credits: @quizhuo_
